Old Boy Korean Movie Review

The Korean live action film Old Boy (2003) is a film that in a professional sense was well created and is intelligently put together. However, I personally disliked the film due to the themes that were in the film which were not straight away made clear to me, leading me to a shocking surprise with the twist at the end of the film.

The theme that is made clear at the start of the film is most certainly ‘mystery’. However, as the film progresses, the themes ‘revenge’, ‘manipulation’, ‘incest’ and ‘suicide’ emerge. These themes definitely accommodate for a dark film, though as I am not turned off by such films, I still decided to watch it through till the end.

Now, what makes this film amazing is the way that the events of the film are set up so that some actions, scenes and lines which are first viewed as not important, end up being extremely ironic due to the final twist of the film. This kind of innovative film structure allows the viewers to remember past events and think about how ironic and wrong events which had seemed completely logical before were.

This movie became highly valued and projected the actors to further heights in their career as famous drama actors in Korea.

I give this film a 7/10 for its innovative structure, which was downgraded due to the crazy themes which quite effectively damaged my mentality and blew my mind for a short amount of time after the movie finished.

Captain America Civil War Movie Review by Serbay Sert

Captain America Civil War was a movie about most of the marvel superhero characters turning against each other. The movie was overall really good and exciting, it was action packed throughout the whole movie which was about two and a half hours long and being that long i did not get bored at one stage of the movie, watching it with excitement all way because the character designs was awesome the actors done a superb job, and the storyline of the movie was good because it was taken from the actual Marvel comics,the characters were not cartoonish and it lived up to its hype it had before its release and most importantly the CGI was amazing and the visual effects was so good. The movie was really good because of its action sequences and obviously for a superhero movie action is one of the most important things to have in the movie and it was really fun watching it.The movie ended well as well leaving it with a couple of question marks in your head but i guess that is because there will be a sequel to it. I really liked the new spiderman that is in the movie out of all the other characters because they done a really good job with the actor and the visuals of the new character and the characters lines and quotes in the movie which made it feel like the actual spiderman when he first started out of all the other actors that played spiderman in the old movies. In conclusion i will say Captain America Civil War was an awesome movie that i will watch again and again without getting bored because it gave me the expectation i wanted from the movie before it came out. I like to rate the movies i watch out of 10 and i rate this movie 8/10!, and i recommend everyone to watch this movie if they like action pased superhero movies because you would not be disappointed.

Mulin Rouge Movie Review----Charles Luo

The all story around the intricately ideal and reality, ups and downs, a beautiful prostitute who living in  material world and a poor talent writer who living in spirit world.  'Love likes an oxygen, indispensable', this is a voice from the new youth. It seems like there is no common  between with this two protagonist. viewed the background of this film,  the  whole society is full of low-spirited  atmosphere and intensified social conflicts after French people experienced  failure war in Paris in 1900. therefore , people focused on the confused and extremely empty life with cynical attitude . they tried to feel better with indulgence extravagant life. the total environment has changed in Paris. it is a important role to show the audience the social atmosphere in early twentieth century at the end of nineteenth century.  At the beginning of the film, the  classic music "The Sound of Music"  was shown with the fresh and melodious feeling. However, following the process of the theme developing , the background music change to "Kang Kang dance"- which reflect the society with the color of the indulgence extravagant .  After the concert of 'Kang Kang dance", there is the prelude of the film-"Moulin Rouge". The subtle connection and processing of the opening music suggested the time background of true love story.  At the same time , the luxury and dissipation sprite of time is reflected by the Kang Kang dance. under the processing of the film,  It is the first time for Christian to come in the luxury and dissipation place - moulin rouge. the extravagant life is represented under the 10 minutes dance performances. in the film to make a sense with the audience about the Moulin Rouge at that  time.  The dance performance is reflected with the  sexy dancers' face ,lively and exuberant dance,  passionate crowd of people , high lift skirt, naked lyrics and the expression of enjoying them and escaping the usual life. In the film, the Lady Marmalade and "At the Moulin rouge you'll have fun " and the can-can  appear alternatively with the accompaniment of metal elements . It  is shown that the indulgence and extravagant under the combination between the music and cancan dance. It is similar with the lyrics. both the tune and the words give an expression of real social life in Paris at that time. 

Compared with heightening  the atmosphere of the times , Director Baziluheman accurately focused on the music to make a great performance of plot under the reflection of music.  The heroine Satine as the shining diamond in Moulin Rouge , expected to escape Moulin Rouge to  become a real actor like Sarah Bhai， though she lives under the flashy, enchanting and gorgeous singing and dancing with the passionate love with handlers  of  men.  therefore, she tried her best to get close to duke to realize her dream.  Compared with tedious dialogue,  the film uses the music to lead the audience to the actress's inner world. When the night falls, Satine stay alone and singing 'one day i will fly away from here, put everything to yesterday, why life just dream by dream?  The song of 'I'll fly away' express clearly which a woman living in chaos 'desire her work hard for living, dedication to the dream, the longing for love but afraid to close to it. The song from without the accompaniment of singing cappella to whisper with the violin string, until Satine went up on the roof, the great momentum symphony burst out through the music push forward. Only two minutes music better tahn any dialogue and film techniques, therefore, audience will feel pity about this beautiful woman who living in struggle world after they understand Satine's inner world. In the love line development of this two heroines, the film also utilize technique of music for foil. The duet song 'Elephant Love Medley' include more than ten classic song part, the melody sometimes are resentment and sometimes are romantic, this demonstrated Christian courage to pursue and expression of love, in contrast, Satine from dodge to wander at the beginning, until she brave to love at the end, make their love line rapid development without any abrupt, this play a vital role for bedding and contrast. 

Review on the Bakuman

Today I would introduce a movie called "Bakuman" (Japanese name: バクマン )that is a Japanese movie which was a big hit in Japan. The real meaning of the title of movie was never told. The story is simply about two high school student dreamed to become professional animators and make their mangas available on Jump magazine. 

The main actors are famous for their excellent skills of acting as well as due to the fact that the original manga was well-known in Japan.

One of the scenes that left me deep impression was when they were drawing the manga. Pictures of the manga was moving quickly as PowerPoint around them, gave us a feeling that it was an ongoing procedure in creating an interesting manga.

And when it comes to the competition between these two high school boys with another famous youth animator, it appears to be a 'fighting' between them. 

It might not be the flavor of most people but may be a good movie to all anime lovers in that it described a whole procedure of a creation of a manga. I can't tell whether the ending of the movie is happy or sad. Their manga was finally cut off from the JUMP magazine, while they did achieve great success during the competition in the fact of gaining champion in the research of the most popular manga for the week. 

I appreciate their effort and luck as well as hubris. Since they were so confident of theirselves, they were able to make a success.

Everyone away from home has someone in their heart they cannot afford to love.

In the 90s, the economic reform was implemented by Chinese government, many younger generation wanted to go outside to see the other world. This is story start with some youngs from Shanghai went New York. They grew in there, love in there, stay in there and then, leave there. 

In this movie, Lu Tu worked as a staff manager in a five star hotel in Shanghai. Because he wanted to go to New York and he persuade his girlfriend, Juan, to go with him. But after they arrived at New York, they find the life in here is so hard even this city is really beautiful. They support each other, love each other and then conflicts happened between them. Lu Tu found there are so many differences between he and Juan, so he wanted them to go back to Shanghai. But Juan wanted to stay in New York. Finally, they broke up and choose different life style. 

As an international student, this movie really touch so much. Live in another country is a challenge thing but worth thing. New York New York shows the struggles, confuses, hesitate and courages in our generation. It is really worth to spend 2 hours in movie theater. 

New York New York is showing in Burwood Events. And if you wanna know something about 90s China and 90s Generation's thinking and struggling, it is a good movie for you.  

To go or not to go, To take a chance or play it safe, To love or not to love. This is New York.

I love watching movies with friends in my leisure time as well as making videos on my own. In addition, I love translating and making subtitles for videos, especially diving into different codes in making subtitles fantastic enough to impress others. On the other hand, I am a big fan of Japanese culture, for instance, dramas, movies, singers, animations etc. I learned Japanese on my own, but not that good in fluently speaking with others.
